Cover Letter: I chose the muscle cell because I was interested in it. I wanted to learn how muscle growth happens and how muscles get damaged. I also wanted to learn what a muscle looks like and what types of muscles there are. I wanted to learn how it is built too.

Introduction:
“Muscles packed with mitochondria give meat a darker color (referred to as dark meat) than muscles with fewer mitochondria (referred to as white meat).” Its body system, malfunction and disease, and structure and function make the muscle cell one of the most interesting cells of the body. Body System: The three types of muscle are smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and skeletal muscle. Smooth muscle is found in internal organs often in passageways. Smooth muscle cells are spindle-shaped and can contract. The contraction of smooth muscle can be stimulated by chemicals of nearby motor neurons. Smooth muscle can regenerate the most out of the three types of muscle. Some smooth muscle can be under your control but it can be painful. Cardiac muscle is only found by the heart. Cardiac muscle is not under your control and is very hard to regenerate. Skeletal muscle is under your control and it can regenerate but it takes a while. An example of skeletal muscle is the biceps.

When a muscle is damaged, neutrophils and monocytes travel to the injured area and activate satellite cells, which repairs the damaged tissue. Muscle tissue damage occurs during the repairing process, not right after injury. If blood cannot reach the damaged area, all the cell that are still living will die within hours. Once the muscle regenerates, there will be less muscle fibers, resulting in decreased strength. Muscle soreness is caused by the hormone, prostaglandin, not from lactic acid
