Covalent bonding occurs when atoms share pairs of electrons. Atoms will covalently bond with other atoms in order to gain more stability, which are gained by forming a full electron shell. By sharing their outer most valence electrons, atoms can fill up their outer electron shell and gain stability (Chem wiki) Nonmetals will readily form covalent bonds with other nonmetals in order to obtain stability, and can form anywhere between one to three covalent bonds with other nonmetals depending on how many valence electrons they posses. The Octet Rule requires all atoms in a molecule to have 8 valence electrons either by sharing, losing or gaining electrons to become stable. (Video File) A single bond is when two electrons; one pair of electrons or they are shared between two atoms. A single line between the two atoms depicts it (BozeMan).

The iron used for galvanizing is dipped into molten zinc. The iron is then baked, and then an alloy is formed at the surface, the resulting product being known as sherardized iron. The zinc coating resists oxidation and moisture (The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). While the idea of coating chemist Paul Jacques Malouin first proposed metal in molten zinc in 1742. Galvanization was also not put into practice until patented by chemist Stanislas Sorel in 1836. The benefits of galvanization are providing a barrier between the metal and the outside forces. (Shrestha). An example of galvanizing a spoon that has not been galvanized will rust quickly. When iron is galvanized its not the iron or the metal that is being exposed to the elements but the protective layer of zinc that is exposed. The Zinc protects the iron or metal that is exposed.
