Some institutions like the United States Army seldom listen to new and challenging ideas. However, if all Counterintelligence (CI) Agents do not challenge the status quo, we as CI professionals will never become innovative and will adhere under the vicious cycle of insanity. The LET program itself is a great program if implemented to its capabilities. For CI Agents, assigned to units who mismanage their organic CI Agent due to their lack of knowledge, LET program a viable option. “CI agent candidates with an approved ascension packet assigned to a unit who desires training in strategic CI duties not available to them at their tactical unit of assignment” – Maita. “Live Environment Training affords the opportunity to maintain the skills critical to CI Agents supported unit through an operational venue necessary for CI certification, minimizing the degradation of CI skills while at home station, and keeping “No MI Soldier at rest.” – Sloan. As previous mentioned, CI Agents skills are perishable and if we in the CI field do not nurture our unique skillsets, then our job quality and capabilities will diminish. The major disadvantage of the LET program is the lack of support from the commander which often recalls CI Agents back to their units prematurely. Typically, commanders mismanage their organic CI Agents and often are reluctant to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. The commander has less control of the CI Agent while assigned at the 902D MI GRP which at times are recalled premature to their contractual agreement. Sadly, often the commander or First Sergeant recalls the CI Agent from the FO to fulfill a gate Gard roster, area beautification, and many other irrelevant
