Slavery was one of the worst things to happen in the United States. Furthermore, salutary neglect was when colonies developed independent states, although they still knew they were under England’s authority. However, they still made their own laws, traded with whoever they chose, and defended themselves without Great Britain’s help. It was the time period from 1607 to 1763 where colonies were standing on their own, not dependent from Britain. So basically it was a time when the colonies wanted to change they was they were run, and wanted to prove that they could depend on themselves. An example of salutary neglect would be Puritanism. In the mid 1500’s, Puritanism was established. It was a social movement from 1558-1603 people started leaning towards the protestant doctrine once the trends of Catholicism were noted in the Anglican Church. In 1517, King Henry VIII renamed Catholicism and replace it with the Anglican Church. He did this because of Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, “I Have a Dream”, in 1517. The French and Spanish were seeking peace, mainly because they were losing due to the fact they were fighting in different locations which made them weak. The treaty gave England land and also returned Cuba to the Spaniards. The government needed money to pay for the debt of the French and Indian War. The colonies had been on their own for some time and they did not like the idea that England wanted them to pay for damages they had not been a part of. English were looking to diminish the lifestyles of the colonists. The colonies started to rebel because they were angered by the change. The English started quartering troops into their homes to show that they had the military on board with them. They were there to make sure the colonists enforced the taxes. Although, this still was not enough for the colonists and so they united and rebelled with three uprisings. The first one was the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, where Sam Adams and the sons of liberty threw out chests of tea overboard. This was done to mess with England’s luxuries, which included tea, to question how it was they could afford tea but not to pay off the debt. The second uprising was The Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770 which was an incident where British soldiers killed five male civilians, while they were protecting the Customs House in Boston. The last
