Costco Wholesale Corporation, better known simply as “Costco,” began with a single membership warehouse in Seattle, WA in September of 1983. The company was formed by James Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman.
The business concept was to create a warehouse club where consumers and businesses can subscribe to Costco’s Membership Plan. Members of their Warehouse Club can purchase goods in bulk. With the growth of the company, Costco also added services that could be purchased at a reduced rate. Costco now offers a travel agency, optical services, a food court, and Home improvement installation. Costco offers name brand products but also has a signature brand called Kirkland Signature.

The stock entered the market at $10 per share. Stock splits have occurred on 2 different occasions and in 2002, COST began offering its shareholders dividends. Other than a few minor corrections, the stock has been in an upward trend since 1994. The current price per share of COST as of the stock market closing on Friday, October 16, 2015 is $152.06 per share. COST’s 52 week range is between $117.03 and $156.85. The stock is currently at the top of its 52 week range.
The Annual Report was just released for the fiscal year September 1, 2014 to August 30, 2015. Costco had a good year and their sales are up 3% from the previous fiscal year. The Balance Sheet shows total Assets of $33, 440,000. Total Revenues and Net Income from the Income Statement are $116,199,000,000 and $2,377,000,000 respectively.
Costco has two types of stocks; Common and Preferred. Their preferred stock has zero shares issued and outstanding. The common stock has a 5 cent par value, 900 million shares authorized, 437,952,000 issued and 437,683,000 shares outstanding. The annual cash dividend declared per share was
