The Affordable Care Act (ACA), implemented in 2010 by the Obama administration is healthcare coverage that allows access to affordable quality healthcare to the citizens of United States of America (USA). Nurses, as leaders and educators can find ways to reduce costs of healthcare without reducing safe, efficient and quality care. Recently, due to shortages and tight budgets, these models have changed with the introduction of enrolled nurses (EN), assistants in nursing and unlicensed caregivers. Team nursing, primary nursing, functional nursing and case management nursing are different styles of models of nursing that have been implemented over the years. When comparing different team models to team nursing, Fernandez, Johnson, Tran and Miranda (2012) found that team nursing is the best model for new nurses to learn, especially on units where there are a diverse group of team members. Nursing satisfaction, absenteeism and role clarity/confusion did not differ amongst the different role models (Fernandez, Johnson, Tran & Miranda, 2012). Nurse safety measuring falls, medication errors and infections showed no difference comparing different models of nursing (Fernandez, Johnson, Tran & Miranda, 2012). According to Fernandez, Johnson, Tran and Miranda (2012) the most important factor of all models of nursing is effective communication and effective communication should be utilized in all models of nursing …show more content…
