Cosmetic Dermatologist Essay

I love skin. Especially black skin, there is something about it that is luscious, beautiful and exotic. Every time I look at a black person the first thing I notice is their skin; the tone, unevenness, acne, texture and so on. Unfortunately, a majority of the time when I glare at the face of a black person I become disgusted. I am not saying this to gloat about how good my skin is, because it isn’t, my skin is nasty, just like a lot of other black people. When I use the term “nasty”, I am not indicating in any way or sort of the tone/darkness of the skin, but the appearance of it. I am talking about the unevenness, the acne scarring, and feel of the skin. This is what inspired me to become a cosmetic dermatologist, of whom focuses on darker …show more content…
That is impossible (I know), but you never know and it’s important to dream. If I don’t get into that as expected I’ll try for NYU, which seems to be an easier college to get into, considering they’re accepting everybody these days. A third option would be John Hopkins, if I’m lucky Harvard, and lastly North Western. These schools have the best pre-med programs in the country (not including NYU) and by going to these universities I will be more likely to achieve my goals while swimming in debt. Of course I will have backups, but I don’t want to focus on the negatives.
6. What is the base salary for someone entering the field? What are the salary potentials?
The starting salary for a cosmetic dermatologist can be up to a minimum of about $169,000 per year and with a maximum of $260,000 ( as of 2012). However, that being said, private practice dermatologists are known for making over $400,000 a year Seeing as how I am both black, and afemale, I will make a substantially lower than the average white male doctor.

Of which can include group practices; this is my preferred choice. These doctors work together in a facility. Similar to this, are private practices, basically the same thing but it’s just primarily one person. Too add on, maintaining a private practice is much more difficult, especially since you have to handle everything. Such as the staff, payroll, venue, materials and much more. Another choice, would be in a hospital, which is a lot more public and of course larger. Lastly, you could pick a career in an academic setting.
10. What personality traits and skills that will help in this field?
The personality traits that would be best suited for a person in this field is quite obvious; you’d have to maintain a personality filled with kindness, honesty, care and all the sweet stuff. These are valuable traits, seeing as how it’ll help the physician create a bond with their patient, and make them feel as comfortable as possible. Especially, since you’ll have to be all over their skin and stuff. Besides if you were rude, vindictive and greedy, you’d have little to no patients, and you probably would be fired anyways with such a nasty attitude.
