Correlation Between Violence And Aggression

Violence has always been a common theme in the media, but it has grown in its prevalence. There is a certain value put on violent behavior due to the excitement violence brings to that particular setting. Because these images are seen so much, it almost becomes normal. Violent behavior is displayed everywhere from sports to video games, music videos, and movies. However, is the media responsible for the violent behavior acted out within the society? This experimental design seeks to find if there is a correlation between violence and aggression. The research question proposed asks what impact violent behavior has on a student 's level of aggressiveness. These groups will both be isolated in two different rooms. After each film session, the two groups will be split into teams and play a ten minute game of football. The amount of aggression acted upon within the game will be measured between the two groups . Any form of aggression, whether unsportsmanlike conduct or rough housing, will be recorded for both the experimental group and the control group. Having adequate access to the subjects could pose a limitation. Without being able to reach the participants, it could then cause the amount of availability or the number of subjects in the design to decrease. Also, if the researcher that is conducting the experiment does not have enough information on the topic prior to the experiment, it could pose an issue concerning validity. In conclusion, the purpose of this experimental design is to examine if watching a violent video over a certain timespan relates to a higher level of aggressive behavior. The hypothesis in question states that people who watch videos with violence develop a higher level of aggression than those who do not expose themselves to violence provided in the media. Therefore, It is believed that violence has a direct correlation to aggressive behavior, and an increase in the level of aggression will be displayed through these violent films over
