1. How does an umbilical cord prolapse occur? What are the visible signs an RN or OB/GYN would notice? (10 Points)

What is Trendelenburg position (describe), how do you put a patient in this position, and what is its purpose in this intervention? (15 Points)
The Trendelenburg position is when the bed/table that the patient is lying on is positioned in such a way that the feet are above the head. A patient can be positioned to Trendelenburg by adjusting the angle of the bed 15-30 degrees, or by having the patient bring her knees up to her chest. The purpose of this intervention in a cord prolapse emergency is that the position takes advantage of gravity in releasing pressure from the cord.
