One of today’s most popular controversial issues is the Death Penalty, also known as Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment is defined as the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime. The different ways of executing always include an intolerable amount of pain or torture. The Death Penalty used to be quite favorable to citizens, seeming as people would gather out on the streets just to see a man being executed. This was until the 19th century when government officials decided to end public hangings and have them held only in prisons where the event was away from the direct public eye. In 1846, Michigan became the first state to get rid of the Death Penalty completely. I believe that the court system fails to protect the innocent because it has been found that for every 7 convicts sentenced to death, 1 is innocent. Although, I know that it is impossible to never makes mistakes, this evidence shows that the criminal justice system makes too many mistakes to be sentencing people to death. I think that is time America let go of Capital Punishment, knowing that we are 1 of only 3 countries to still use it. The only other 2 countries are Japan and South Korea whom use the punishment as a terror weapon against their own people and I do not think that is right. I also do not believe that Capital Punishment is morally or religiously right. I do not think that is makes God happy to see his children killing each other. Of course, the convicts already did because that is what got them to courtroom in the first place, but I do not think he would want to be watching us continue the killing. After all, why should we judge them for their sins when also sin. Even if theirs may be greater than ours. Jesus still forgives and so should we, even if we do not want
