The group of believers who views are different from the cessationist, is known as continuationists. Continuation is defined as, “the act of continuing or of causing something to continue.” Continuationists says, the charismatic gifts were intended to continue throughout history. “Therefore, contemporary believers should be open to them and, some would add, even aggressively seek them.” The continuationists believes strongly in spiritual gifts such as, healings, tongues, and miracles, and they are still in operation today, just as there were in the early church. The Holy Spirit is the difference maker to a believer. There are many scriptures that the continuationists use to support their argument, one in particular is 1 Peter 4:10. …show more content…
He also mentioned that the speaking of tongues was a form of communication with the believer and God. If believers have the Holy Spirit, now just like the apostles did, so why these charismatic signs are debatable, and others aren’t? Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” To say this scripture was just for the Apostles, you would have to refute all commandments that the Lord has instructed us throughout the Bible. The cessationist refutes the continuationists, and makes claims that the charismatic gifts of healing and speaking in tongues was just for the Apostle. Not to mention, continuationists believes the power of healing is still happening today. Throughout the books of Acts it is proven it wasn’t just for them. According to the Bible, Stephen and Philip were amongst those who were not apostles that were healing, and operating in the …show more content…
As previously stated, 1 Corinthians 13:8-10, which states, “Love never fails, but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; it there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect come, the partial will be done away.” This scripture has shaken the debate up. Reading this scripture one must determine what the scripture means by, “perfect one”. Is perfect one the completion of the Bible, or the second coming of Jesus Christ? As a matter of fact, when viewing this the reader must look at the whole chapter and keep it in its context. In verse 12, Paul mentioned that we shall see face to face. When reading this verse later, one has to revert back to the phrase “when the perfect comes”. The perfect One hasn’t come yet, so it is sure that the gifts are still available to use for all believers that are open to

The statement that the “future depends on whether we believe this” shows how the Resurrection is critical to this unification. This new position is called “the believer’s standing in the heavenlies.” It is a situation that is very distinct from the worldly state. Paul expresses clearly the difference the Christian enjoys through the redeeming grace found in Jesus.…

When the reader finally arrives at 1 Corinthians 12, this particular church had many, difficult issues with which to navigate. It is from these issues, however, that the developing church over time is allowed to learn about spiritual gifts. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.…

The prophecy that spoke to me the most out of the eight prophecies is Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.” This verse represents Jesus Christ, completely absent of sin, yet shows His complete obedience to God, as Jesus becomes the perfect atoning sacrifice to give His righteousness to sinners. Jesus Christ left His divine nature to be born a sinless lamb here on earth to fulfill the purposes of God. Jesus Christ represents the Lamb of God as this animal gave heightened significance in the Old Testament by what it represented in the Jewish sacrificial system.…
