The purpose of this randomized control study is to determine the effect of botulinum toxin type A on the effect of pain control in plantar fasciitis. A total of fifty participants were included in the study. Twenty-five people were included in treatment group and the other twenty-five people received saline solution. The study lasted twelve months. The results showed that the treatment group had an increased results compared to the saline group. Their pain in this group had decreased a great deal. All 41 participants included must have recalcitrant plantar fasciitis to be included in the study. They ranged from 18 to 75 years of age. The participants were put into a placebo group and a treatment group. The treatment group was given the injection and had to fill out a survey on how they felt. The placebo group was not given the injection and also filled out a survey on how they felt. The results showed that the treatment group had improved pain compared to the placebo group. This shows that botulinum toxin type A is an effective treatment. I would use this article for research, but only for the positive results. The second group received 50 units of saline to the same location. All participants were assessed at week four, eight, and twelve. The results found that significant decreases in pain were found in group one. They also had more range of motion without pain. The overall result was that botulinum toxin type A helps to reduce pain and increase range of motion with patients who have plantar fasciitis.
