There are three branches: Legislative, Executive and Judicial. The legislative branch is the Congress which consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. According to Ginsberg, Lowi, Weir, Tolbert (2015), the Legislative branch can “Pass the law, control federal appropriation, approve treaties and approve presidential appointments, regulate state commerce and establish lower court system”. The Executive branch consists of the President as the head of the branch, vice-president, and the Cabinet members. According to Ginsberg, Lowi, Weir, Tolbert (2015), the Executive Branch “Enforces the law, commander in chief of armed forces, makes foreign treaties, proposes laws, appoints the Supreme Court justices and court judges, and pardons those convicted in federal crimes”. Finally, the Judicial Branch consists of the Supreme Court. According to Ginsberg, Lowi, Weir, Tolbert (2015) Judicial Branch can “Decide constitutionality of laws, reviews lower court decisions and decides cases disputes between states”. Our government has a unique system of the separation of powers which makes all branches equal with no one has more power than another. Also, the branches can overrule one another. For example, the president can propose the law, but the Senate can refuse to pass the law. Another example is the Senate can remove the judge from the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court can declare the laws that were made by the Senate unconstitutional. Even though this system was created a long time ago , it is still efficient today. United States does not often face problems such as: corrupted government, president has too much power, bureaucracy.
