America is considered the land of plenty but for many, hunger is a reality. Many believe that hunger and poverty levels only exist in smaller societies or certain areas of the world but the reality is it’s much closer than believed. Conscious Alliance is a national nonprofit organization that supports local communities in crisis through hunger relief and youth empowerment. By operating food drives across the United States, building food storages for communities in need, and through empowerment and education programs for youth in impoverished Native American reservations.
Conscious Alliance positively impacts and supports communities by using art as the motivating force to move individuals to donate for their causes. Through operating many food drives at concerts and music events called, ‘Art That Feeds’, participants receive an event or artist poster for donating twenty non-perishable canned food items, or the recommended money donation of thirty dollars. All donations collected benefit local food pantries and other hungry awareness programs. Out of the ten lowest income counties, eight of them are Native American Reservations. They started their hunger relief efforts on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and has since kept up a year-round crisis food storage and distribution facility in their community for nine years. With alcoholism, drug abuse, gang activity, and teen suicide being the very present conditions of life for youth on these communities they provide them with sustainable solutions for the future.
