Have you ever heard the expression “Bored to death”? Well that might not be wrong. People who are easily bored are at higher risk for depression, drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling, hostility/ anger, or poor grades. People who are bored frequently are more open to doing/ trying new things if they think that it will entertain them. Other people may believe that being bored is a good thing for you because when you are bored you could discover new hobbies that you enjoy. I think they are wrong because you can discover new hobbies whenever you want, and you do it randomly. In conclusion, try to fill boredom with exercising, reading, crafting, or do something with friends or family. Although boredom is not all bad, there are are much more cons to boredom than there are pros. Even when you’re home alone, try and find something to entertain yourself

When I was a child, I was often lectured by teachers. In order to endure the endless scolding, I started fantasizing or thinking something fun. For example, when I was a child, I often imagined about cartoons that I loved, and now, I often enjoy some kinds of thought experiments. Since I began the escapism, I have been able to tolerate what I had thought boring. Furthermore, Weiner also said, “You don’t like the way things are, they aren’t interesting enough for you, so you decide—and boredom is a decision—that you are bored.”…

“Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki and the article “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams are two articles loosely intertwined. The article “Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki reasons the idea that part-time jobs are something that we should slack off in and are there to help us pass time. While the article “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams debates about how our most creative thoughts and ideas come from our moments of boredom, as well as how society’s modern day influences are the culprit for our lack of boredom. Both articles vaguely share a similar topic, boredom. “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams is a more strongly written article than “Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki.…

A few years ago I’d come home with one focus, to watch as much t.v. as possible before I was sent to bed, and whilst that may have only been 3 hours at the most the premise was still there. There are plenty of ways to pass time. If you’re taking the bus home after a long night at work and waiting for your stop to come, play a quick game on your phone or listen to music, maybe chat with someone sitting next to you. If you’re waiting in the long lines at Disneyland, take a minute to pay attention to accents and other languages that you might hear, or watch the faces of the people just getting off the ride. If you’re waiting for your nagging shrewish wife to finally stop pestering and tormenting you for days on end, take a hike up to your favorite spot on the nearby mountainside and take a nap for 20 years. Okay, maybe don’t do that.…

Some would argue that it isn’t an addiction, but as Marc Potenza, author of “Teens and Screen Time Is a Problem, But More Study Is Needed,” puts it: “screen time can be easily categorized as an addiction because it meets the most useful definition as addiction, the three C’s: Compulsive use, Lack of control while using, and Continuation despite severe consequences.” Potenza wants people to realize that individuals who stay glued to their screens even as they begin to experience major problems in functioning, in ways are not far from those dealing with substance abuse and gambling disorders. Although Potenza feels that screen time should be categorized as an addiction in teens, he also realizes that more research is needed for screen time to be known as a addiction. Danah Boyd, the author of “Blame Society, Not the Screens”, would disagree with Potenza and digs deeper into the “so called” addiction that teens seem to be developing. When Boyd began her research she expected to find what everyone is claiming to be the addiction, completely wrong.…
