Conflicts In Frank Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars

In Frank Beddor’s Novel “The Looking Glass Wars”, the author uses man different conflicts to characterize Alyss. At the beginning of the story, Alyss is confused. This can be seen when she sees her Aunt Redd attacking. After entering the Pool of Tears, Alyss becomes funny, which can be noted when she is joking with the prince. Upon entering the Looking Glass Maze, Alyss develops into a powerful character when Redd seeks her as a target. Each conflict in “The Looking Glass Wars” furthers the characterization of Alyss. In the beginning of the novel, Princess Alyss is characterized as confused, distanced, and unimportant. First , “‘Hatter” she called.”’ (Beddor 76). When Alyss says “Hatter”, it displays that she is confused because he is not with her. Next, “‘You taking a bath or what” said a boy watching from a distance.”’ (Beddor 78). Quigly states alyss as being dirty. This portrays that she is an unimportant character because she is not in Wonderland anymore. Then, “‘But as he breathed in the rug’s fibers, Hatter’s concern wasn’t for his own safety, but for that of Alyss Heart, a lost princess in a hostile world.”’ (Beddor 85). Hatter, Alyss’s best friend and guardsman thinks that Alyss is in harm. This proves that Alyss is distanced because …show more content…
First, “‘I don’t need to see this.” she said.”’ (Beddor 307). When Alyss said “‘ I don’t need to see this.”’, it shows that she is afraid because she doesn’t want to vision what’s going on. Next “Redd wants me to face her alone” said Alyss (Beddor 336). Alyss thinks that Redd wants to face her alone. Thinking this expresses that she is powerful because Redd seeks her as a target.
