We live in an everchanging society where technological advances continue to evolve daily at a rapid pace. Equally, students adapt alongside the changes and continue to build upon existing technological skills. Learning to utilize their savviness and engagement can prove to be beneficial in regard to student achievement. Recently, I have been afforded the opportunity to further research an RTI computer-based intervention program known as Moby Max. This program provides instruction for twenty-seven content areas ranging from kindergarten through eighth-grade. This program provides differentiated instruction in math, reading, and vocabulary, and could easily be implemented and advantageously utilized by my elementary school, Richard B. Cartmell Elementary. …show more content…
Specifically, Moby Max initially assesses students through diagnostic placement tests, and determines the grade level at which they currently work. Common Core Standards learning gaps are detected and addressed through engaging instructional opportunities. According to research, students gain one full grade level after spending only twenty hours with Moby Max. Furthermore, students who have spent seventy hours or more, gain at least two full grade levels (Walsh, 2013). Interestingly, students who use Moby Max one hour per day are capable of mastering 2.32 grade levels of content in a single school year. On average, our data is not indicative of this amount of growth, especially our RTI students. Table 1-A and Table 2-B indicate the potential growth that Richard B. Cartmell could experience.
