Composition II Reflection

Improved Essays
Throughout Composition II, I have explored and evaluated different assumptions people generally have about today’s society. When learning about these common assumptions, I participated in class discussions and learned about other people’s point of view which has helped me understand and respectfully refute ideas contradicting mine. Additionally, I practiced creating my own topics based off the common assumptions. Along with learning and discussing assumptions about society, this semester, I have improved my thought and writing processes and learned how to correctly write a research paper. One area I have improved throughout this semester is my thought and writing processes. Before this semester, my thought process was to wait until the end …show more content…
I have learned how to construct a works cited page, cite sources, and write an annotated bibliography which will be useful in many of my other high school and college classes. Prior to Composition II, I did not know how to cite a source, and I was worried that finding all the information needed for a source would be time consuming. However, with the help of websites that format sources such as Easybib and some practice citing sources, creating and citing a source has become a quick and easy step in my paper. Another step to writing a research paper I learned is creating an annotated bibliography. After creating my first annotated bibliography, I learned how to find reliable sources that pertain to my topic. Although learning how to cite and create sources and make an annotated bibliography will be extremely useful in the future, one of the most important skills I learned from writing a research paper is how to prevent my paper from becoming too opinionated. Before Composition II, I did not realize that research papers could not contain any opinions that were not supported with reliable facts. Now, I have found a balance between option and fact. By learning how to correctly write a research paper in Composition II, I am more prepared for future research

Freshman Composition I’s course objective was designed to help students “focus on developing and expressing ideas clearly and effectively to communicate with various audiences for various purposes and occasions, through written, oral, aural, and visual venues by means of individual and team projects.” Throughout this course my classmates and I reviewed principles of the writing process, including: planning, logical organizational, development strategies, revision, and editing, we were also introduced to rhetorical techniques and vigorous library research. With those techniques, this course has helped my classmates and I develop critical thinking skills like: summary, paraphrase, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of multiple sources. Before I began this class my writing process consisted of simply being assigned as assignment by my high school english teachers and coming up with an essay at the top of my head that properly fit the space requirement and prompt that I would then turn in the day it was due.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

During this semester of English W131, I have experienced both accomplishments and setbacks while learning how to improve my writing skills. Throughout the course, I have learned that writing is not only about how much information is in the paper, but also about how well the writer’s thoughts are expressed throughout the text. Practicing many different styles of writing as I did in the class has helped me tremendously with my delivery in my writing. I believe that this course was one to prepare us for future writing courses with professors we will encounter who will give us feedback that may puzzle us because it will require more work and more thinking. Although I have had difficulty in the class, I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that I am finishing the course with stronger writing skills that will help me though the rest of my college career and life.…

The annotated bibliography is an important step in the research writing process because it contains organized information from several different sources. It also provides descriptive examples of the sources that are available. I determined which sources to include by looking for information that supported my thesis statement. In the beginning, I had a bit of a tough time, but then I tried different keywords and more information became available. My thesis statement also helped me to have a more focused topic which resulted in me having better search results.…

Introduction Looking back at my essays from my first semester in Composition I, I can definitely see that I have improved tremendously. My learning from my Composition II was not so much about learning concepts, but it was more about improving what I already learned last semester, and adding onto it. Compared to last semester, my learning this semester came from paying attention to details, following the rules, and adapting to a new teaching style. While last semester, my learning came from new concepts like ethos, pathos, logos and knowing what they are and how they work.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…

At first it did seem like this was going to be the case. However, as we got further into semester, I realized we were building towards something much greater than just thoughtless essays. Every assignment was like a level, where you learn different tactics to help you on the next level.…
