A contractor will actively seek to produce a building which works well within the built environment, is built of reputable materials, is built using quality craftsmanship as well as on time all whilst producing a profit. To ensure the future survival and growth of the business although maintaining a profit is essential, as is maintaining a professional quality of work throughout. It will be down to the supervisors on site to ensure this quality is met and to motivate the workers to constantly strive for the various deadlines whilst maintaining optimum efficiency and minimal waste. A customer driven workforce has already fundamentally been managed with a TQM approach as the customer already defines the level of overall quality as no matter how well the contractor believes the work has been done the customer ultimately determines whether the works completed to a certain standard.
