For this paper, I decided to compare and contrast two different styles of artwork that both have the same medium. The two pieces that stood out to me at Willards Art Center in Idaho Falls Idaho were Elise Wilding's tree painting and Bernadette Regnier's flower painting. Both artists, Wilding and Regnier, use the medium of paint to create their beautiful art. While they both use the same medium in their art, they have do have different styles. Wilding uses an expressionism style in her art to connect with her viewer, whereas Regnier uses impressionism in her painting.

When viewing Wilding's tree painting, and many others it becomes evident that she would be considered and expressional artist. Impressionism is an art movement that originated in the 19th century in France. Impressionism applies the technique of applying paint in small touches of pure color rather than broader strokes and painting outdoors to help create the impression of color and light in the artwork itself. Some of the characteristics of impressionism in Regnier's flower painting are the real life subject matter, her use of complementary colors, and how she creates the image of flowers making for viewers fell as if they actually caught a glimpse of what they looked like in real

In Woman in a Purple Coat (1937), Matisse painted his assistant and companion, reclining in a Moroccan costume, set in an interior with exotic patterns and abstract ornamentation. He has avoided straight lines in this composition, however the colours clash in such a way that the image still works. He uses colour and light to rejoice in life. This was amongst the last of Matisse’s oil paintings. He soon began making paper cut-out collages instead of working in paint, due to ill health.…

Compare and Contrast Essay The two works of art that I have chosen to compare and contrast had me worried at first. I wondered if there were enough things to compare between the two. However, after evaluating Tsukioka Yoshitoshi’s Samurai Attacks Woman and Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s self portrait, I have come to find that they share many things in common; from medium to colour, I will discuss the vast array of contrasts as well as similarities. It helps first to describe the two pieces. The first one that caught my eye while perusing through the database was Tsukioka’s, which was created during the Meiji period of Japan.…

Because the red and orange colors of the leaves are reflected in the puddles on the sidewalk, there is balance in the painting. The reflection created by the oranges and reds creates the scene of rain. The reds and oranges in the trees at the top of the painting are balanced with the fallen red and orange leaves on the ground as well. Along with balance, there is a lot of variety in the painting. The colors range from cool blues to warm reds, from dark purples to bright yellows, and from secondary colors to primary colors.…
