Comparing the opening of Paul’s letter to the Galatians to his other letters we see that it is
unique among the seven undisputed Pauline letters. Paul opens this letter by announcing that
he is an apostle of Jesus Christ, not by human appointment or authority, but by divine
revelation. He is being utilized as a direct instrument of the Holy Spirit, consequently, there is
no need for any other human involvement. In most of the Pauline letters Paul is accompanied

The formulaic greeting is different in Galatians than the other letters where Paul not only gives
them grace and peace but points out that Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins. Galatians 1: 3-5
“May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Jesus gave his life for
our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we
live.” Paul felt it necessary to explain to the Galatians that Jesus Christ was the only way to
salvation from the evil world and not through works as the false brethren were teaching.
In Galatians Paul does not give a thanksgiving or blessing as he does in his other letters instead
he expresses shock and disappointment that they have turned away so soon from God and
followed a different way. Their behaviour does not warrant a thanksgiving and blessing
