Tashi Pasang family was living a semi-nomadic life. “But his main love was the Dharma , and he told me that if I continued to live the life of a layman. I might acquire yaks,but would have nothing to take with me when I died” ( Dalrymple,149) . This indicates that his uncle is saying if he continues to live his life as a lyman he wouldn’t have the passion of devotion towards religion when he died. “I was worried I would miss the freedom of the mountains. But as it turned out, in the monastery I was happier than I had ever been” (Dalrymple,149) Since his job before being a monk was so dangerous because he would have to protect the yaks from getting attacked by the wolves and he was happier with the decision he took from becoming a monk. Despite the fact that he had to let go of living a simpler life and not being able to get freedom from becoming a monk. Tashi Pasang believed that it is important to let go of the attachments which cause problems in life. “ The main struggle,especially when you are young,is to avoid four things:desire,greed,pride,and attachment” ( Dalrymple,150 ) This quote represents that Tashi Pasang believes that it is difficult for humans to completely let go of these things which are difficult to give up . The songs give an insight into the personal lives of many women's who joined the ascetic communities. The non-attachment is shown by the struggles in the women's lives which lead them to join the ascetic community and follow the path that Buddha advises. ”Every verse in the gathering and also friend volume of melodies formed by the friars is a testimony,for its takes the stand concerning an existence changed by the Buddha's lessons and praises a release,sometimes from works of hardship of regular day to day existence however more frequently a concealed shaft stopped in the heart, or from expending distress”( Therigatha,120 ). This quote indicates that the speaker glorifies that Buddhism has set her free. The women are singing this to think of the Sangha as a refuge for those that have suffered the loss.
