It is a West Germanic, Low Franconian language that originated in the Early Middle Ages (c. 470) and was standardized in the 16th century. West Frisian is also a recognized language and it is used by the government in the province of Friesland. Several dialects of Low Saxon (Nedersaksisch in Dutch) are spoken in much of the north and east and are recognized by the Netherlands as regional languages according to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Another Dutch dialect granted the status of regional language is Limburgish, which is spoken in the south-eastern province of Limburg. The Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy. Willem-Alexander (the King of the Netherlands) is the head of the Dutch state and forms the government together with the ministers.
Spain is also a constitutional monarchy.
The parliament has two chambers, the upper the Senate ( senado) and the lower of which is the Congress of Deputies. The Congress consists of 350 members which represent the 50 provinces of Spain.
Economic similarity: the currency
Until 2002, the Dutch currency was the Dutch guilder. Then, it was replaced by the Euro. The Euro is divided in 100 cents. There are coints of: 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 euro and 2 euros. There are also banknotes, starting at a value of 5 euro. Furthermore, the bill of 10 euros, 20 euros, 50 euros, 100 euros, 200 euros and 500 euros exist as well.
In 2002, the peseta was replaced by the euro. The exchange rate is 1 euro = 166.386 pesatas. Now, the Spanish currency is the Euro, just like the Netherlands and many of the other members of the European Union.
