The piety of the trojans is shown mostly in books 5 during the funeral of anchises, and 4 when aeneas has to leave carthage because the gods told him too. Sinon tells the trojans: "if your hands should harm Minerva's gift, / then vast destruction...would fall on Priam’s kingdom and the Phrygians; / but if it climbed by your hands into Troy, then Asia would repel the Greeks" (Book II.268-273). This shows that the trojans’ piety will overcome their power to believe sinon or not. Since they decided to take in the horse into the city to appease minerva. But little do they know it’s a trick from the greeks and the gods. Throughout the book aeneas notices that even though he is pious and all the gods still hates them: "Had the outcome not / been fated by the gods...Troy, you would be standing yet" (Book II.75-79); "But oh, it is not right for anyone / to trust reluctant gods!" (Book II.540-541). This shows that even though he believe the gods hates them. Aeneas remains as one of the most loyal and pious people in the aeneid. “But you, Roman, remember, rule with all your power the people of earth — these will be your arts: to put your stamp on the works and ways of peace, to spare the defeated, break the proud in war.” (Book VI. 981-984). Here aeneas meets his father in the underworld and anchises shows him the future of rome and how great the leaders will be.
