These few stats show a fair difference between these two different areas. They’re only 22 kilometres away from each other but both have very different lifestyles. Strand has a safe area with a great lifestyle compared to Khayelitsha. The beaches are great, and surfing is a very common activity to be done. There are many more well-constructed buildings and little shacks unlike in Khayelitsha which contains an enormous number of shacks to house for a large population. In 2009, Khayelitsha had 20 high schools that participated in the matric examination period. The results that came back from these examinations were very low scores, ranking very low in the scores in the province. Only 6 out of the 20 schools achieved over a 60% pass rate. These types of scores are not on for the future. These examination scores set up their future and need to be improved quickly. Education is a must if you want a good wellbeing and if the quality of education is low, then unfortunately this could have negative results on these children’s …show more content…

Khayelitsha is a town with a huge slum that is improving although there is a lot more to improve on. Lots of people are quite happy right now with the lifestyle they have in the slum as its better than what they’d be doing where they were years before. Its great to see the smiles on their face and it seems like happiness is key to their life, and if they’re having fun, then their wellbeing is pretty good.
