Today I will be comparing and contrasting two different artworks. The first one is by Romare Bearden, his art work is call She-Ba. The other artwork I have decided to write about is by Enguerrand Quarton and the name of the artwork is called Coronation of the Virgin. I will be comparing and contrasting some formal components about each art work, such as scale, material, line, color, tone, and composition. It is good to take notice and observe these different elements about the artwork. It helps you get a better understanding of the portrait and its meaning. She-Ba artwork by Romare Bearden was created in 1970. It was painted on a collage on paper, cloth, and synthetic polymer paint on a composition board. One of the first things I notice when I look at this artwork is the different lines surrounding the dress and the the child standing behind her. These lines have continuous moving points on their clothing. On the child pants and arm sleeves there are some black and grey rising and falling diagonal lines. When you look at the artwork you see a few areas with large space. This painting would be known as polychromatic and a polychromatic is when a painting has a multiple color …show more content…

In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the artwork Web #8 by Vjia Celmins and Drapery for a seated figure by Da Vinci. First, we will start off with the differences between the two pieces of art work. The mediums for Web # 8 is a dry media, charcoal on paper while Drapery for a Seated Figure is a liquid media, grey distemper on grey linen canvas. Vija's piece Web #8 is a charcoal piece containing line work such as cross hatching and a gray scale. Her line work I considered cross hatching, but a loose use of it.…

I stand in-front of the statue amazed; the statue was detailed from head to toe, so detailed that you can not notice everything at once. With every minute that went by I kept noticing something new; either it was another crease on her veil which was wrapped around her arms or the embroidery on the veil. Anne Whitney was well known for her full-figured portraits of suffragist and protesters leaders, she communicated her feminist and abolitionist view through her sculpture. Whitney accomplished…

The coloring and placement of the clouds were an essential element of the painting. The clouds deliberately catch and draw the eyes to the left side of the piece, although there is far fewer figures and space dedicated to this side. The use of color and space in this manner gives the painting a very asymmetrical feel. This contrast between the two groups of people contributes to the overall message of the piece. Cranach, who was trying to push more Protestant ideals, shows in his work how few the Saved are compared to the Damned .…

For example in the background there is a village burning and the smoke and the fire have curvy lines. The curvy lines not only shows direction but color also and its red then turn to a dark gray until eventually black. Beyond the burning village we can see the mountains and their actual straight lines and implied curved line are thicker and they are more visible. The artist uses a dark yellowish color to describe these mountains as if it's late afternoon or early morning. The actual lines are all over this painting, they are used to set boundaries and outline objects, like the outlines from the robe and the wounded man.…

The artist of the painting I've chosen to analyze is by Hans Cranach. Hans’ was born around 1513 and is the oldest son of Lucas Cranach the Elder. He worked with his dad in his workshop and was also being trained by his father when he was younger. By 1527 Hans was assembling his creations of work but by that time it was difficult to have his own work when it was being compared to his father's. Hans valuable paintings were Portrait of a bearded Man and Hercules at the Court of Omphale, in which he signed the both of them.…

Every piece of art is unique in its own way; however, many similarities can be identified when viewing works side by side. The visual elements and principles of design both contribute to this. I will be evaluating a number of components within two different works of art: Classic Landscape created by Charles Sheeler along with Self-portrait on the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States produced by Frida Kahlo. I will be focusing on line, mass, light, and space on the visual elements spectrum. The principles of design I am going to cover balance, emphasis and subordination, scale and proportion, and rhythm.…

The diagonal composition structure, with the ‘earthly’ angled below the divine, further creates a painting of presence, inducing a transformative experience. Despite clear religious order the tightly cropped composition allows for a physical and psychological overlap where a sense of unity and order is created. In the painting, Christ is illuminated by being colored in with very pale colors, but he surrounded by a myriad of colors. Each person depicted in the painting, especially those in the foreground, are each wearing clothes that have different hues, such as the Virgin is wearing blue while the Saint John is wearing red. The colors of each of their clothing are quite intense adding to the energy of the scene. There is also a mix of warm and cool tones throughout the painting, which adds the disorder of the painting. Another important aspect of the painting is the use of color in the middle ground and background.…

In order to identify and mimic the creative prospects of the work that elicit detail, I had to admire certain elements and suspect their relevance to the piece, where only then I could interpret them and advance my own creation from the techniques that I observed. While we study many beautiful pieces of art throughout the entirety of this semester, between the originality, economic struggles, and over complications that are exhibited within this work, I believe this work is the most advanced of which we saw, considering the region from whence it…
