In his story, Poe describes a community that has been riddled with “the red death” a horrid disease that killed thousands. Prince Prospero however, decided he would leave his community to die and lock his castle doors to all but a thousand of his best friends, he becomes boastful of how he helped them cheat death and in one of his most magnificent parties, he expresses his triumph a bit too much “The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue.
