The differences of reading and writing between high school and college are very similar yet very different. In this essay, the technique, format and approach will be present to show that they have the same concept with some differences. In addition, high school and college writings are much more creative.
Firstly, they differ in ways in which one is more analytical than the other. However, that is not the only difference. In high school, students are expected to be organized with their writing along with using a chronological structure, such as the five paragraph theme which includes an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Therefore, high school students are more ground bound and limited in what they are reading and writing about; they are more dependent on the limited information given to them by teachers. Writing a conversational essay helps establish “different perspectives [such as] cultural, social, psychological, political, philosophical, historical, [and] gender. . .” into your writing allowing you as writer to be open-minded and aware of your position ( ). According to these quotes from, Curriculum as conversation, it implies that in college the best way to communicate your ideas and thoughts is in the conversational format which helps you open up to other possibilities. Conversational format allows you to “write what you believe with the purpose of getting people to accept the true-value of your claims, your argument”( ). In comparison to high school writing and reading which are often skimmed and undrafted, college contains more in-depth ideas which are beyond high school student’s critical thinking process. They have stronger diction including a more complex critical thinking in which allowing them a strong position on a university
