The Constitution of 1857 and the Constitution of 1917 were very similar yet very different. The main differences I see in these two documents are that the Constitution of 1917 gave more power to the Mexican people. In the first constitution of Mexico, the people were given only certain rights. The constitution did not clearly state that government officials had to respect the citizen’s rights. On the other hand, the Constitution of 1917 clearly stated that any government representative be a police officer or president, shall respect the citizens rights and petitions.
I believe that the church was targeted again in the second constitution to reinforce the separation of the church from the state. Some presidents had been very lenient with
