Compare And Contrast Pharmacist And Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician v. Pharmacist
Although pharmacy technicians and pharmacists work in the same place, their jobs are very different. Pharmacists depend on technicians for help with daily work and techs depend on pharmacists for guidance. One of the biggest differences in these jobs are the levels of education. Pharmacy Techs only require a certification after passing the PTCB exam. Some states allow techs to work right after graduating high school. Pharmacists on the other hand require a doctorate degree. This involves many years of school as well as a residency. The duties of each job also have a lot of differences. Technicians are mostly responsible for accepting prescriptions from patients and dispensing the new medication into the package.

I am a registered pharmacy technician and have practised in community pharmacy for almost 6 years in the UK. The services that the pharmacy was providing were like where I had previously worked and all the standard operating procedures were similar. However, during the placement, I could see the pharmacist’s point of view rather than a technician and how the role of the pharmacist is different from that of a pharmacy technician. The pharmacist’s role was more focused on the clinical aspect, rather than just dispensing and ordering medication. I learnt how to recruit patients who are eligible for Medicines Use Review (MUR) and New Medicines Service (NMS).…
