Puerto Rico and Mexico are two different Latin countries that have many cultural differences, but after all have a big similarity which is the language. Both countries share Spanish as their official language. Most of the Languages from México and Puerto Rico is the same, but the context in which a Mexican can use a word may be the opposite from what it will mean to a Puerto Rican and vice versa. In this essay, I will focus on the history and contribution of the Spanish language in the Puerto Rican and Mexican society. Puerto Rican Spanish came from the American farmers and commoners in the 15th and 18th centuries. The Spanish is spoken in every part of the island because Spanish is their native language. Puerto Rico is also referred as “La Isla Del Encanto” and they call themselves as puertorriqueño or Boricuas. Spanish is the dominant language, but because of the heavy influence America has in Puerto Rico their Spanish is mixed with English or how Latinos call it, Spanglish. Moreover, the Spanish from Puerto Rico was imposed upon the inhabitants of the island, and Tainos. In contrast, the Mexican Spanish was originated in the 16th century. Mexicans speak castellano which is Spanish modified by Mizteco. This is the language that the natives Mexican spoke before the Spaniards came. The different influences that both of these countries had a big factor Spanish from Mexico have a different accents and varieties from some countries. Mexican Spanish is the most polite because is very clear and easy to understand in the Latin American Spanish dialects.
