Tex-Mex Vs. Real Mexican You know those nights when you crave for mexican, so you go to Taco Bell, well you aren’t getting real mexican food. Tex-Mex food is a combination of Mexican and American cooking. Tex-mex originated with Tejanos, citizens of Texas who are descended from Mexico. These people applied Mexican style cooking to the region. Mexican food is believed to obtain from the Mayan Indians. A lot of Tex-mex food and restaurants can be found in Southwestern, United States. It is most famous in Texas and some parts of Mexico. It can also be Found in Canada and some parts of Europe. Mexican food can be found mostly in Mexico. One major difference between Tex-mex food is the ingredients. Beef, yellow cheese, wheat flour, black beans, canned veggies, and cumin. If you have one of these ingredients in your “mexican” food it is considered Tex-mex. Mexican is usually more healthier than Tex-mex. Ground beef is more fattier than the leaner meat of pork, chicken, lamb or seafood. Lettuce, is not supposed to be in your taco, unless you want Tex-mex. Mexican tacos are supposed to have bits of onion, cilantro, avocado. Tex-mex food is mostly known for being greasy and fried. While mexican uses fresh veggies. Special equipment is used for making Tex-mex and Mexican. Pans, can openers, colanders, dishers, ect. While mexican is more of molacahes, tortillero or comals. Some examples of Tex-mex restaurants in Indiana are Roscoe’s Tacos, Abuelo’s Mexican restaurants, and On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina.
