Compare And Contrast Macbeth To The Play

I will be discussing the differences that the director made in his version of Macbeth. How those changes worked or didn’t work. I will also be discussing what themes I would bring out to the audience today if I were to direct the play. Geoffrey Wright’s Macbeth is different than Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Wright turned it around and made Macbeth a Rockstar in the Mob. Duncan was the Mob leader. It takes place in modern day Melbourne, Australia. Wright used actor and actresses that weren’t really experienced and also used really experienced actor/actresses. There are a lot of Melbourne gang movies and this one adds to that collection. Since this is an updated version and it’s made for the current generation, he put rock music, blood, sex, nudity, guns, and lastly drugs. These are some other changes that were made for this modernized Macbeth; Kings are now gang leaders, when they say riding it refers to dirt bikes and not horses like in Shakespeare’s version, Dunsinane is Macbeth’s property and house, Donalbain is not even in the story, and Cawdor is a nightclub. In my opinion I believe that the changes that Wright made were good. With his modernized changes it helps us understand a little bit better since we're more used to gang violence and how greedy they are. Wright changed the chronic knocking to an annoying door bell. When the Birnam wood came to Dunsinane, Wright change that to the wood being hauled by a truck to Macbeth’s house. The battle scene was fast and rapid to show the chaos a little better and also Wright had a shootout in a wine cellar to convey the message of wine being the blood and revenge that Macduff
