All guns serve a different purpose, guns have been a part of American history for numerous years. The various types of firearms have many different jobs, take hunters and police officers, for example. Hunters use guns to harvest food, while police officers use guns for law enforcement. The two most commonly used firearms are the rifle and the shotgun, these two firearms are used for a certain goal but the two are different from one another. They differ by the types of bore, the type of projectiles it can fire, how far the range is, and how much they cost.
A rifle gets its name from the presence of spiral grooves in the bore that is known as “rifling.” These grooves spin the bullet, thus increasing the rifle’s range and accuracy. A shotgun’s barrel wall is thinner than that of a rife and it contains a “smooth” bore, meaning the inside of the barrel does not have the spiral grooves. Shotguns use the smooth bore because of the type of projectile it shoots. Because of the different types of bores shotgun and rifle have, they fall into two different types of categories.

Thanks to the creation of rifled bores we now have different firearms that can complete tasks at different ranges. With the advancement of firearms we are able to enjoy different sporting’s like hunting different game and shooting competitions. With the evolution of firearms we find the concepts of rifles and shotguns. The way one can tell the difference between the two is by looking at the type of bore it has, what kind of ammunition it shoots, how far the range is, and how much the firearm cost.
