Compare And Contrast Essay On Commercial Pilots And Surgeons

Commercial Pilot vs. Surgeon Think about it, would you rather fly an airplane or perform surgery to potentially save a life? A commercial pilot or surgeon are two careers that I have researched. A commercial pilot and flying a plane is a job that I would enjoy doing, and being a surgeon performing surgery to help out people that are in need of it is another job that interests me. They are the same in the sense that they both must have very good communication skills. However, they differ in the education that is needed to become one and the work environment. Commercial pilots and and surgeons both need to have good communication skills. Pilots must speak clearly when conveying information to air traffic controllers and other crew members. They also must listen carefully for instructions ("Airline and Commercial Pilots”). This means that a pilot has to give clear directions for a safe takeoff and landing to keep everybody on the plane, whether it is 30 people of 300 people, safe at all times. Surgeons usually work in sterile environments while performing surgery and may stand or long periods of time (“Physicians and Surgeons”). The areas the a surgeon works in needs to be very well lit so that they can clearly see what they are doing and everything in the area needs to be sterile to prevent infection. However, pilots work primarily in an aircraft. They may spend a considerable amount of time away from home because of overnight layovers. Many pilots have variable schedules (“Airline and Commercial Pilots”). A pilot sits in a plane when they are flying and after a pilot has a long flight, they can have a few days off after they get home. Working in an airplane compared to being in a very sterile, well lit environment, commercial pilots and surgeons have very different work
