When a person drives into a new town what they see leaves an impression that they will carry for the entire time that they are there. Now every school districts are run differently, yet to be only 45 minutes away from each other USD 253 and USD 501 are nearly complete polar opposites. USD 253, Emporia’s school district is more uptight about their rules and regulations that that of Topeka’s USD 501. Emporia focuses on ensuring that a child understands what they learn, and they are able to accomplish this because of their small population/class sizes. This allows more one on one time with students who need the extra push to succeed. Whilst Topeka has too big of a population to allow the students that one on one they may need. Even with as many schools as Topeka has, a number that seems to be dwindling as time passes, the class sizes are still far superior to that of Emporia’s. USD 253 does more for its students academic wise where as USD 501 lacks the necessary resources it needs. Now where 501 lacks in academic it does make up for it in athletics, an area where 253 struggles to maintain a winning
