Compare And Contrast Conservative And Conservatism

Improved Essays
Liberal and conservative two traditional values America boasted among us. As a kid, I was never really had an interested in American history or politics, then again what kid does. And as a man, I still have no attention to be involved, but that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion. First off, what does it mean to be a liberal? Being liberal means to fight for one's right or belief. For example, abortions, same sex marriages, and birth control these are things are what liberals fight for to make a person have their own decision and not be discourage about that decision. But what about the conservative? What does it me to be one? Being Conservative is like being the opposite side of being a liberal. A conservative like to hold the traditional …show more content…
For instance, abortions, liberals are for abortions while conservatives call it murder and do not like or allow abortions. Between these two values, I claim myself a liberal

Liberalism has some good value and to me, it seems like they have the best intention for a lot of things. I could see myself being more of a liberal than a conservative in the future. But for now, I agree with some of their ideas like keeping religion out of school. If religion were to run schools, there would be a lot of conflict with American students and it would seem like the Roman Christin would run everything. Another topic, I side with the liberals, is energy recourses. Gas, oil, and coal are all good sources for energy but the true is all these sources are depleting. Not only are they depleting, they are also harming our atmosphere. The way the liberals explained about their idea of energy resources is there are other sources of energy to be explored. The thought of making a national plane for all energy resources could be a great idea. To be honest, I'm not the type of guy who cries about the environment. I'm just saying, the environment laws are pretty different here in America. I was born and raised in Germany, and

What defines a Conservatist is open to interpretation by the individual and the circumstances. I have found the closest definition of a Conservatist is when some asks a person “What type of wine do you like?” and instead of getting a vintner or an appellation; you get a response like, “You know, the good stuff.” While Conservatism is relativity defined as a political and social philosophy promotes retaining traditional social institutions in the context of culture and civilization. Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others, called reactionaries, oppose modernism and seek a return to "the way things were.”…

Conservative vs. Liberal In the news today, we always hear about how one political side thinks that a law or event should be interpreted in one way, while the other side displays what appears to be a completely contradictory viewpoint. Since the United States became a country, the laws and amendments that the founding fathers wrote in the constitution are very much open to personal interpretation. These two political sides are known as Liberals and Conservatives.…

A conservative would agree with the question that farm subsidies and other support for industries should be eliminated, but the liberal would disagree. A liberal would agree with the question that stricter environmental regulations should be enacted to prevent pollution created by corporations, but a conservative would disagree. When it comes to social regulations by the government, a populist would disagree with the question that all censorship regulations on swearing or public nudity should be lifted on commercial TV, but a libertarian would agree. A libertarian would disagree with the question that public schools should enact dress codes in order to encourage learning among the students, but a populist would agree. A conservative would disagree with the question that marijuana, cocaine and other recreational drugs should be made legal just like tobacco and alcohol, but a liberal would agree.…

RP2-Western Civ 2-Brande Ragsdale Once again, I am humbled and forced to ponder the parallels between modern times and the past. Learning that liberalism is a concept that has been around for over three hundred years was surprising to me. I have spent quite a bit of time this week pondering the definition of liberalism which is defined in the text as “individual liberties guaranteed by constitutional law; the sanctity of private property; unrestricted movement of individuals, ideas, and goods; and, finally, social advancement based on merit.” (Brophy, Cole, Robertson, Safley, Symes, 337) The text also states “The principles of the Enlightenment and liberalism largely overlap.…

Conservatives vs Liberals on Abortion A conservative wishes to end abortion rights. However, a liberal wishes to legalize abortion rights everywhere. Conservatives believe that human life begins at the moment of conception. Liberals believe one is not alive until birth. As Christians, conservatives feel like they must stand for God’s gift of life.…

The conservatism of George H.W. Bush came from similar ideological roots as Ronald Reagan, but was different when it came to execution, particularly in domestic policy. The most noticeable similarities come in foreign policy. Both presidents believed that America must take a leading role and intervene to protect American interests. For Bush, he demonstrated with Operation Desert Storm where he launched, “Massive bombing of Iraqi portions of Kuwait, as well as Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. The ground war, which began on February 24, took only 100 hours to force Saddam Hussein's troops out of Kuwait” (Faragher 911).…

The most evident one is that of the greater good, and in the case of republicanism relates to keeping “balance between classes” and uniting people to work towards a common goal. Likewise, liberalism emphasizes individual’s freedom, but clarifies that liberty does not mean license, and brings forth the idea of keeping to the ideals “Within the bounds of the law of nature.” Overall, it is necessary to maintain stability between both Republicanism and liberalism as both emphasize different values, but together work to make for a balanced society in terms of the government and the…

US History The Progressive movement was more a triumph for liberalism than for conservatism, as we can see in the change in democracy, economy and the role of the government. Defining conservatism, it can be described as the maintenance of traditional institution, and social ideology. It tends to preserve and emphasize stability and continuity. However during the progressivism, the progressives had made a lot of improvements and reforms in education, social welfare, economy, which can be regarded as liberalism.…

Because in their eyes conservatism is inherently wrong. This stems from an arrogance in their beliefs, a supreme arrogance that was founded in having unlimited, monarchical power for 8 years without ever having to experience a dissenting voice. Now that conservatives are in power, all human civil rights are in danger! Or at least, the ones that liberals manufactured for themselves in the last 8 years. And that's what bothers me more than anything; it's the arrogance in their beliefs and moral superiority.…

Being a liberal in the current political atmosphere is rough. Not only do we have an election where the two major party choices are deplorable figures who seem incapable of telling the truth, but the third party candidates either can't pass a geography test or can't stay out of trouble with the police. In the Democratic primary election, liberal candidate, Bernie Sanders, failed to capture the Democratic base and the DNC colluded with the Clinton campaign to secure her victory. In Obama's second term, he failed to pass comprehensive legislation through the partisan Congress. We've had to endure a conservative backlash from the Obama administration, but being liberal has had its moments.…

I currently live on a Christian seminary campus, where calling someone a liberal is considered an insult and anything less that extreme right wing is out of the norm. Though I’ve grown up around a very decided group of people, my parents are much more moderate than the majority of the people here and have definitely influenced my beliefs to a degree. It’s been an interesting contrast, being surrounded by one extreme and, as a millennial growing up in the age of the Internet, being influenced by the opposite end of the spectrum. I went into these quizzes thinking I would land somewhere in the middle and to the left, and I wasn’t too terribly far off.…

Conservatives support the U.S. Constitution and strongly agree that we all have unalienable rights. The first of those rights are life and conservatives support this because they are pro-life. The second is liberty which I interpret as the freedom to choose. By this, I mean the ability to choose what you believe in such as religion. The third is the pursuit of happiness which I have heard referenced multiple times as property.…

I found an incredible amount of validity in Lakoff’s moral politics theory because I never understood why there is such a disconnect between liberals and conservatives. We are one nation and I assumed being under the same flag and administration, we could all accept what is happening. If I had to be categorized into only one of two political views, I would be liberal. However, there are some issues I find with liberalism. I believe that people should work to pay their living expenses, but the government should assist when necessary.…
