Bet El Aaela
We went to Bet El Aaela, a nursery home, for two days. We talked with many residents. One of them, Dr. Wagdi, talked to us about Football and the home. He asked us about our respective majors. Then he discussed some positive things about his life. …show more content…
Ahmed, who was interested to know our majors and why we had visited the nursing home. He was glad that we are engineering students, like his granddaughter. We were later introduced to another Mr. Ahmed who didn’t speak, but was lively with energy and ready to communicate. Ahmed and Abdelrahman sat with him; he used his fingers to talk to them. He would spell out on his hand the things he wanted to say, and we would do the same in return. In this visit, Omar sat with a new group of people and some of the old. Mina talked with Mr. Mohamed and met Mr. Abdel Rahman. Mr. Mohamed didn’t talk much, but he asked for help to adjust his body on the wheelchair. At the end of our visit we joined and sat down with 4 elderly patients. Mr. Khaled, from the previous visit, reminded us of the conversations we had. Many residents gave us advice and spoke about how much hope they see in our generation. Many just wanted to talk about their lives, children and past. First was the coordination that needed to take place to find a reasonably crowded metro car, from both the inside and the outside. We had to make calls back and forth to notify the other team of the metro car that we would try to organize so that they can organize the outside. This took a lot of time. In the end a dominant person just decided which car to organize. Another limitation was getting the message across. First example of this was in the metro car where we were supposed to tell the passengers of the proper way to exit the car. To illustrate this one of us spoke and the other was an example of what the passengers should do, acted like he agreed and moved to the respective doors. In theory this was a good idea, but in practice the example was coming across as an effect from the message. This allowed us to try different things. The limited amount of trials had been mostly trial and error. The outside of the metro, taking to prospective passengers was a different story. These passengers could hear what you were saying clearly, which is the first and most important difference, but it took time to convince each person, even though most reacted positively. In the end these limitations convinced us of one truth, we needed more organized and larger group. A group with t-shirts that somewhat explain our goal, with many bodies both inside and
