Leadership. Whenever this word comes to mind, I think of the qualities that it takes to be a leader: mentally strong, intelligent, and the ability to be a good overall person. Being a leader is a position that has many responsibilities that come along with it. While there are many challenges that a leader must face, overcoming these challenges and hardships can have some of the most rewarding results.
Being a leader does not necessarily mean to lead a group of people. In school, it can hold the meaning of leading by example. For instance, doing the right thing, helping others, and being kind and courteous will cause people to look up to the person, thus making him a leader. This may include in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. Being a leader in the community is much different than in school. Community leadership brings about the challenge of organization. To be a leader in the community, organization is essential, as without it, there would be no leadership present. To be clear, the leader in the community is the one who helps direct what people do, but the thing that makes that person the leader is the manner in which they do it. The rewards of being a successful, strong leader are very satisfactory. They may include a new respect, pride, more confidence, and eventually, more knowledge for the future. It may also lead to more people looking up to you and following you, which is a prestigious reward that is often overlooked. Leadership doesn’t necessarily have to be grandiose or significantly impactful. It can be displayed more casually or in a school environment like in my US History class. Guidance, direction, and management are three words that describe the trait of leadership. The dictionary describes leadership as the action of leading a group of people or organization. I agree with this definition but also believe that leadership is a skill that is hard to master, and makes people around you feel more secure with where they're going and what they're doing with their time. We see and follow leaders everyday such as teachers, parents, fellow peers and even sometimes we’re the ones showing leadership to the people around us. And while leadership can be a good thing, there are times when leadership is not necessary or even taken too far.…

Leadership is exemplified in my life through influencing the lives of younger generations, as well as through personal achieved acts.…

I have been on my different teams; volleyball, basketball, track, and softball have all given me the opportunity to build my character and to lead by example. I was the volleyball team captain for my junior and senior year, so many of the younger girls were looking up to me. The best way to lead is by your actions; I would always go hard in practices and games to show the underclassmen that in order to get the best results, you need to give it your all.…

In a community, being a leader is often difficult due to all the components and struggles that go into being one. A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Throughout my years, I have grown from being a primarily shy person to someone who is not afraid to step up and be the leader I am now. Today, I am able to consistently demonstrate what it is to be a leader in my daily life. Although coming into high school as a freshman was intimidating for me, I knew that in order to succeed, I needed to open up and try something new.…

From someone not under the responsibility of a leadership role, it may seem like a wonderful job, since they can escape from the usual workload that a non-leader has to put up with, and have authority over others. Yet, they tend to overlook the amount of dedication and self-evaluation that a leader has to go through in order for their group to succeed. One must better and uphold themselves to a high standard in order to be an efficient leader, and not for power alone. They must have a wide knowledge of their position and patience to help others in case an issue or situation arises. When things go wrong, the leader, not the group, is blamed, and often is the one that pays for the consequences that their peers have done under their watch.…
