But also because I am dating a man of color, who I plan to spend the rest of my life with a family with. I as a police officer do not want to be one that is in the situation where I may have to used force or my weapons on a person of color and for it to be called racism. I am not for racism and I'm sure a lot of police officers say the same and are still accuse of being one for doing their job.. Even though some officers claim to not be racist, some of the actions they take on the blacks are uncalled for and you would never see them doing to a white citizen. Because most of the jail and prison systems are inmates of color a lot of officers probably assume that most African Americans are committing crimes, using/around drugs, or just breaking the law. Police officers or people in general should not be stereotypical, everyone is just trying to live their life. All I can hope for is my days on duty are easy and simple, people do what you ask them to do, no fights have to break out and, nobody gets hurt. If you show the respect as a police officers, instead of wanting people to look at you in a higher form because you are the law, you should be able to get what you are asking for from everyone you encounter not just African Americans. I truly do hope that there never comes a day where it gets so bad (the altercation between African Americans and law enforcement) to the point where I would have to choose, family or my job, because I will choose my family and children over my career
