During the meeting with my advisor, Dr. Cami Sanderson, we were able to discuss the end goals and decisions that I’ve made here at Ferris State. We discussed what my academic opinions are here at Ferris; what I can do with the classes that I have taken. We covered what I think I see in my future and why I have decided to go down the path of communications. Dr. Sanderson and I also discussed the benefits of being a communications major and where in the job field that it can take me; where I could go in the field of work as well as where I could go in the world. The last thing Dr. Sanderson and I talked about was the upcoming career fairs, how I need to jump onto them, and how to present yourself to the employers. The first topic that we covered was the career fair. We looked at the employers that were going to be there and discussed which ones I should present myself to if I were to look for an internship or job with their company. For example, at the upcoming career fair there are a few insurance companies that are looking to hire and offering internships, Sanderson and I agreed that they would want to look for communications majors to apply for the internships. This lead onto the question of what is the communication practicum. From how I interpreted it from Dr. Sanderson, the practicum is like college course, specialized in …show more content…
I had made one in the past, but I wanted the advice of my college advisor on what to have on it from what employers want to see. Sanderson explained that employers aren’t looking for a backstory on where you came from or the type of work that you have done, employers are more looking for what you are capable of and how you can strive at their company. Some employers are looking for experienced student who have worked under tough conditions whether it was on your own or in a group environment. Employers look specifically for communications majors who can work with others in the

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…

I am writing to you today to inform you about my experience at the Sothern New Hampshire University Internship Fair held on campus on Wednesday February 17th, 2016. I intend to talk about my overall experience, what I noticed/ learned while there, as well as how the Internship Fair helped to further develop my articulation of the SNHU Business Competency, Professional Communication as well as my overall professionalism in a competitive business environment. First off, I wanted to inform you that I chose this experience due to the fact that I personally felt as though it would better enhance my articulation of the school of business outcomes, as well as further to enhance my professionalism in a competitive business environment more so than just having a meeting with a Career Development Center staff member. Prior to this event you asked that I attend, interact and then report back to you my overall experience. I attended the event, dressed professionally, with ten copies…

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

My experience in COMM 2367 this semester was an important one for not only my educational career but for my life after the classroom. It helped me reconnect with the task of group work, helped me overcome my fear of public speaking, and much more that I will be discussing through this reflection paper. You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

My 3-practicum placements have provided me with different, but great learning experiences. I was able to practice what I have been learning in my other college courses in my practicums. In all my practicums, I was able to build positive relationships with each student and teacher-supervisors that I interacted with. I have worked in a grade 4, grade 1, and now a grade 3 classroom. As I assisted in each classroom I was able to learn what my teacher-supervisors would expect from their educational assistant.…

This current semester I am enrolled in Professor Zack’s Media Production I class. Our first project of the semester was a silent film that would focus on someone or something involving a lock and a key while expressing an emotion. This project wasn’t a solo project, but instead involved working with one other person. The lock and key could be metaphoric or literal and from that concept we had to tell a story in twelve to fifteen shots. Our idea was to convey a young musician finding the right “key” on his guitar and “unlock” the excitement (which was our assigned emotion) inside of him.…

When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out.…
