Communication And Protective Regulation Analysis

Improved Essays
There are two functions that are foundational for a healthy society. There must be communication between the individual members and systems along with a protective regulation of the behaviors of these individuals. First, all communication within our society requires some kind of electricity. Imagine trying to maintain our society without the flow of electricity. Many things would be affected by this but the loss of communication would be the most detrimental to maintaining the society. Second, there must be a protective regulator, like the police officer, to maintain daily order between the individual members. When there are not enough police officers to maintain order, opportunity opens for individuals with destructive behaviors to cause havoc within a society. Their destruction harms other individual members, systems, and eventually, the entire society. The body functions, in much the same way, as the society. Communication and protective regulation is necessary to …show more content…
If one mechanism is failing, the others work overtime in attempt to adjust and keep the cell alive. Ion regulation across the cell membrane is used by both elements as a mechanism that creates a flow of ions from cell to cell and thus, creating changes in the electrical charge of the cell and its surroundings. These changes in the electrical charge makes the communication between cells possible (Weber, 2014, pp. 1-12). The regulation of the ions is also a protective mechanism that ensures a safe environment for the cell to perform its functions. Therefore, the various characteristics of magnesium and potassium provide mechanisms of communication and protective regulatory function within the cell that are necessary for healthy cellular function. 1 One prevention strategy for aids that was brought up in “Endgame: AIDS in Black America” was educating those in high school the importance of abstinence to prevent the spread of the disease, however that was a problem because many had already had sex. Due to the fact that it would be difficult to stop those high school students for having sex, it was suggested that the use of condoms should be promoted. Another prevention strategy was the syringe exchange program, however it was controversial because many believed it promoted drug abuse. That belief was disputed by studies which showed there was no increase in drug abuse due to this prevention strategy. 2.…

Physiological triggers such as aggressive behavior can often stem from accumulated stress levels from workload and patient interactions or fatigue from working long hours or personal reasons that is channeled through their interactions with other people. Moreover, there is also a possibility that they were not educated through their upbringing on the social norms to act civil when interacting with others. In the examination of any society, it is imperative to look at the role of the people and their function within— to consider the society as a whole. In similar fashion, the body politic metaphor is often used as a way describe the people of a nation, state, or society as a unified whole, where both the government and the people operate as a collective. The suggestion behind this metaphor being a healthy government should function like a healthy human body. Imbued in the use of the body politic metaphor are ideologies; norms; or, implicit values regarding certain types of bodies, systems, and institutions which are crucial to the proper function of a society— as well as an identification of what is not needed or, in need of correction within a society which is key to its proper function. In this identification, and further distinction, of what propagates health within a society and what poses a threat its health, the metaphor inevitably functions as a way to condemn, exclude, and to “other” specific members within a society, which are viewed as detrimental to the healthy state of the body politic.…

However, there are many more factors that contribute to an accidental or intentional use of excessive and sometimes deadly force. One of them is lack of proper training and adequate control in police departments (Lee & Vaughn, 2010, p.193). For instance, some police departments failed to provide their officers with training where they would acquire communication skills regarding mentally ill or emotionally unstable individuals (p.201). Lastly, Bernasconi (2014, p.146) suggested that the media also play a large role in the exaggeration of facts and overrepresentation of certain individuals that can induce police officers’ emotions of fear and leads them to commit thoughtless split-second decisions. All things considered, there are many social,…
