In Room, Ma creates an unreal world for Jack, lying to him about what the real world is, causing a quarrel between Jack and her, also making Jack harder to adapt the real world after leaving the room. In Pillowman, Michal conceal the fact that he always snooping round in Katurian’s room without telling Katurian, hence causing Michal killed two children. In short, both stories tell us not to be dishonest towards other people as it can cause something trouble.
Thirdly, people who harm other will always get what they deserve, there will always be karma. In Room, Old Nick who is characterized as a bad guy, who beat Ma, rape her and imprison her. He does lots of bad thing on other, and at last, after Ma escape, he was caught by police. In Pillowman, Katurian is the one who killed his brother and parent, and Michal is the one who killed two children, and at last they both dead, Katurian was executed and Michal was killed by Katurian. In both stories we can see that the one who harms other will get punishment, warning us not to do bad on others.
In conclusion, apart from the fascinating story plot, there are also some deep messages behind Pillowman and Room and they shared many common themes. They both express the same point of view on the human nature, the correct attitude to deal with life and what human should not do in the story, and it is quite
