Ms. Teresa Poindexter is a patient of The Woman's Clinic. I treated her for the duration of her most recent pregnancy, where she developed several complications due to fibroids blocking one of her kidneys. This however could not be treated due to her pregnancy. It is my medical opinion that due to these complications that the patient undergo a full hysterectomy in order to treat her condition as well as prevent any future complications.…
According to the CDC (2010), “urinary tract infections are the most common type of healthcare-associated…
Women have a significantly higher chance at having this condition compared to men, people can even inherit it. This can be related with many other conditions, such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, severe acne, obesity, Crohn’s disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. With this said, it has also been connected to smoking tobacco. Another factor is your age. It usually affects women in their 20’s (ages 20-29) (Symptoms).…
Common examples include: Wound infection from a cesarean delivery or from a surgical cut at the opening of the vagina (episiotomy). Uterus infection (endometritis). Genital tract infection of the vagina or cervix. Breast infection (mastitis). Urinary tract infection.…
Chlamydia is known as an infection that is caused by a type of bacteria that is passed during through sexual contact (Planned Parenthood 2014). It is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial infection in the United States. Statistics show that about 3 million American women and men are infected with chlamydia every year (Planned Parenthood 2014). Mostly it is common amongst women and men under the age of 25 (Planned Parenthood 2014). It is more than three times as common as gonorrhea and is fifty times as common as syphilis (Planned Parenthood 2014).…
(5) Figure 1 shows that the overall number of notifications of chlamydia have risen over the nine year period, more importantly highlighting that the 20-24 year old age group is overrepresented, closely followed by the 15-19 year old age group. This further cements the claim that young Australians contribute to the majority of chlamydia notifications, and that public health interventions must be aimed at this age group in order to decrease the rate of chlamydia. In young Australians, chlamydia contributed to 90%of the 57,119 notifications of the four most common STIs (gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia and donovanosis) in 2012, having a tenfold increase over a 21 year period (1991-2012) (3). In 2012 the incidence rate of chlamydia was 1,663 cases per 100,000 young Australians, contributing to 81%of overall notifications (Figure 2) (3).…
For my research paper I have chosen discuss Chlamydia Trachomatis. This sexually transmitted disease has millions of new cases each year and can be prevented if a condom is used properly during intercourse. If symptoms arise seeking out medical treatment as soon as possible is required due to the possible irreversible damage such as infertility. It is just not painful urination that flags the host that the bacterium is present, fever and testicular swelling may occur.…
How it spreads In the picture above you can see the molecules that chlamydia creates. When an infected penis creates contact with the lining of the vaginal canal or occasionally the other way around the bacteria stays locked into the skin and infects the surrounding area. Can it be cured?…
Chlamydia is a disease caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is mostly sexually transmitted. Chlamydia can infect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, eyes, and throat. Chlamydia can cause serious, permanent damage to women’s reproductive system. This disease can interfere with women getting pregnant later in life.…
Lack of access to health care increases the number of untreated STIs and contributes to the spread of disease through risky sexual behaviors. The last measurement of primary care providers yielding data that there are 1,908 patients to 1 primary care provider. This data point does not include nurse practitioners as primary care providers so the number may be lower with those practitioners included. Teen pregnancy is known to increase the risk of STIs. The rate of teen pregnancy is the second highest (6,560) in the state as well.…
Genitourinary issues affect millions of women, and while some of them do not possess a serious threat to health, they can create discomfort and negatively impact quality of everyday living. Therefore, all patients with such genitourinary problems require thorough examination and testing to make a diagnosis. The paper presents a “Top Five List” of female genitourinary complaints and explains main reasons for women to seek solutions through health care. The Top Five List of female genitourinary complaints includes vaginal infection, irritable bladder syndrome, stress incontinence, urinary tract infection and sexually transmitted infections.…
Furthermore, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than three million teen girls have a sexually transmitted infection. That's at least one in four and half of sexually active young people in the U.S. will contract a sexually transmitted infection by age…
Escherichia coli and Me The disease/infection that I have chosen is the urinary tract infection, commonly known as the UTI. Depending on where the infection occurs, there are two specific names. If the infection occurs in the lower part, like in your bladder, it is called Cystitis. If the infection travels up towards your kidneys, it is called Pyelonephritis (Umm/Health).…
Though it's long been known that women are more prone to such diseases, it's not been clear until now what the reason was. In the report, the researchers suggest that testosterone plays a part in balancing the immune system and that more of it in men, than women, helps men to ward off those diseases that are due to inflammation. The study has important ramifications for both men and women, and also for health care providers. For men, the new research might help cancer researchers discover why prostate cancer is so prevalent in the abscess of inflammation; many cancer researchers have singled out inflammation as a possible lead-up to many types of cancer, possibly now, due to this latest research, offering some expansion as to why so many women get breast cancer. It's all about inflammation.…
The urinary system is how the body gets rid of waste and extra fluid (MedlinePlus, 2018). The body parts that are included in the urinary system, are the two kidneys, two ureters, bladder and the urethra. Women are more likely to get urinary tract infection (UTI), then men (MedlinePlus, 2018). The risk factors for women getting UTI are changes in their hormone level, getting old, menopause, using spermicide, diaphragm, new sexual partner, or family history (Kidney Health Australia, 2018). What makes women more prone to UTI than men is because the urethra in women is shorter than in men, which allows bacteria easy access to the bladder (National Institute of Health, 2018).…
