Those of Middle Eastern decent lack vitamin D due extensive clothing, which they were for cultural purpose and to limit skin contact with abundance of sunshine the Middle East countries get. Vitamin D can be obtained through sun exposure. There are modifiable risk factors that include taking multivitamins, avoiding over consumption of alcohol, and sun exposure, some non-modifiable risk factors would be age and ethnicity (Melamed, 2010). Vitamins are organic molecules, which a necessity for cellular metabolism. Vitamin D is the only vitamin that is created by the human body (Grodner et AI., 2012). By increasing my intake of salmon, mushrooms that exposed to ultraviolet light, milk and eggs will increase my level of vitamin D from 16ng/ml to about 30ng/ml, which will then be considered within normal limits. Having the right amount of vitamin D present within the body is important because it promotes calcium absorption. In return it maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate level to allow normal mineralization of the bones. My grandparents and my father's brothers all have diabetes. It is really important for me to stay on top of my health to decrease the risks of becoming a diabetic. Two long-term goals I have set and are currently put into action are the following: continue to count my calorie intake to ensure I don't exceed my limit of 2000 calories per day, while exercising 5 to 6 times a week for 60 minutes or more. I will also be more conscious of my dietary consumption. The second goal is to consume whole wheat bread instead of white bread, and all meals will include half vegetables and fruits with lean sources of protein with each meal. Also, I will exclude sugary drinks at all times throughout my life span. I have also set short-term goals the first one is to make an appointment with my primary care doctor in order to get a blood test done to evaluate my fluid and electrolyte levels as well as my A1C levels by the end of the month. I have completed this goal and received my results. The second goal is to assess my nutritional intake by adjusting my food pantry by eliminating foods that are canned and preserved to limit my intake of sodium and other artificial substances.
