“Most of us have learned the hard way that their are very few things you can absolutely count on in life.” (Graydon Carter). The Outsiders is a classic story based on the struggles of young men going through life on the steers without much guidance. In the story, their are the greasers and the socs. The greasers usually hang out on the streets, get into fights, and do illegal things for fun. There are 7 greasers, Pony, Soda, Darry, Two bit, Johnny, Darry, and Tim. The socs on the other hand, stay to themselves except for the odd time when they come to jump the greasers or start rumbles. The book begins by telling us about the different struggles that go on in the lives of the greasers and how they manage to handle it. Darry, was the oldest brother of Pony and Soda. He had it all, he was a jock and managed good grades, he could have easily been at college right now living his life but he was forced to stay home to raise his brothers after his parents died in a car crash. Just like all the other greasers Darry learned to fight, steal and hate, but their was also something different from all the greasers that Darry had to learn. He had to learn how to give Pony and Soda that love they should have been getting form their parents, making them feel wanted and safe.

Rumbles, fights, stealing and girls were all right up his ally. He had a few incidents with the cops and new what he was doing, but he learned all this from living on the streets by himself. He hated life, their was absolutely no good in it what so ever in his mind. He didn't love anybody, but maybe that was because nobody loved
