Coming Out For Gay Teens Essay

The two trends relating to coming out for gay teens is that of being left by family and friends and that of being bullied by peers, yet “The Internet also has eased isolation for gay teens, offering a place for socializing and support, says Stephanie Sanders of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction in Bloomington, Ind.” (Elias, 2007) Before the internet, gay teens had to make big decisions on who to tell and when to tell them due to fear of being isolated, yet knowing what may or may not transpire by joining a group on the internet may ease the pain of coming out for gay teens Another trend relating to gay teens coming out is “In the case of coming out youths, not only must they negotiate the oppressive society at large, but they must also deal with the extra pressures of living within the often-homophobic contexts of their families and school environments.” (Bernal, 2005) in which case I will tell you from when these articles have been published and now, more teens are able to say they are either bi-sexual or gay to their peers and be accepted than a decade ago. It seems to me that more teens are experimenting with their sexuality now than in the past. These teens are the teens that knew the possibilities of what may happen when they come out, but knew it was who they were and nothing nor anyone was going to change
