Columnar Basalt I chose to do Columnar Basalt(,) because I have never heard of this type of this formation. Volcanoes are very interesting to me, so I decided to do a little research on it. After a volcanic eruption, rock formations starts to form due to (because of) the quick cooling of the lava. The formation can come in flat rocks or in rock columns. Some columns can reach the height of 30 m. Most of the columns have at least five or six sides to each rock. The rocks of this formation usually form in set(?). As the lava cools, the lava starts to contracts(?) forming into cracks. As the cracks continue to develop the columns continue to grow.
