The Quarry in La Quinta was established in 1994 in California. It is situated in a breath taking background consisting of mountains, waterfalls, and streams. Its creator Tom Fazio creatively planned the Quarry in such a manner that it came to be known as “Golfer’s Paradise.” Tom Fazio designed three unique playing areas. So those playing golf experienced a steady increase in height which allowed them to see the mesmerizing details of the course.…
Missouri’s geological columns are more prevalent in the Southern area of the state where we find more of the igneous rocks left from volcanic activity during the pre-crustaceous period. They create a…
The Liberty Hill pluton of South Carolina is one of twenty-four known granitoid bodies along the southern Appalachian Piedmont which possess the properties of a supergroup as described by Pitcher. The country rocks surrounding the plutons are at least mid-Paleozoic in age. Liberty Hill lies within country rocks of the Carolina Slate belt which consists of “primarily intermediate to felsic pyroclastic debris and hypabyssal intrusive bodies.” (Speer et al. 1980).…
East of the cascades, lava flowed from large cracks in the earth, far from any volcano. Where the earth’s crust is weak, lava may spill out and spread hundereds of squar miles. This prosses is called fissure eruption, or lava flood. Flat platforms called plateaus, are left from the lava cooling. Streams of water carve channels into the surface.…
The rocks were Bentan shale and clay. Its age is estimated to be around 90 million years old. It is suspected that the past deposition environment of the area was underwater marine of the intercontinental sea. The only event that occurred at this era was the continuation transgression of the sea level. The formation at the stop would cause a problem for any construction plan because of the swelling soil.…
The field trip to the Lava Beds National Monument would be a good place to go. It is near the California and Oregon state boarder and is California's best kept secret. We should go to the Lava Beds National Monument because it would be a fun place to go and see things we never seen before. Lava Beds Monument could be really fun because we could climb and go in the slide that is there. It would be really fun.…
“Later, as overlying rocks were eroded away, the intrusive granite was revealed at the surface and eventually uplifted” (How Half Dome Formed). After being eroded for some time, large amounts of pressure were released from the rounded crown of the Half Dome. This absence of pressure lead to a type of weathering called exfoliation, and whole sheets of rock were peeling off at a time. This process “is mostly responsible for the peaks contour today” (How Half Dome Formed,…
What I love most about Iron Mountain is you’re never too far away from the wilderness. I routinely have deer, rabbits, and other woodland critters in my yard, and it’s not uncommon to come across bears, coyotes, or even moose on the way to exams. Outside of work, there is no shortage of camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hunting, and hiking opportunities. The Fumee Lake Natural Area, just outside of Iron Mountain, has miles of trails to enjoy scenic views, wild life and flowers.…
Yellowstone volcano has many plants and animals living around it. Yellowstone has many different kinds of wildlife habitats. One of them is the alpine tundra which is a Dry, rocky, and treeless areas near the tops of mountains. Alpine tundra has very few growing plants and a few mammals, such as mountain goats and pika. Another habitat is the Mountains Meadows which is a lush, spongy oases of sedges, wildflowers and shrubs grow at elevations from about 6,000 to 11,000 feet.…
Jami Norton January 5th, 2014 Longley Archaeological Project Mount Vesuvius: Pompeii On August 24, in the year 79 A.D., the Vesuvius volcano erupted suddenly in southern Italy. Rock and ash covered the urbanized city of 25,000: Pompeii. The Roman colony was just recovering from a bad earthquake in 62 A.D. Mount Vesuvius had erupted more than 50 times before. 25 hours of pumice, rock, and ash being pumped out of the volcano and onto the vulnerable, unknowing town of Pompeii.…
1915 Black Dacite is one of the newest rocks in california because it was created during the 1915 eruption. Banded Pumice was formed as a result of two different lava types mixing and drying. Hydrothermally Altered rocks were created when a rock fell into a hydrothermal vent and got changed, the original rock cannot be identified because of the alterations. Some of the peaks at Lassen Volcanic are Lassen Peak, Mount Diller, Cinder Cone, Broke off Mountain, Reading Peak, and Raker Peak. Brokeoff Mountain used to be part of a volcano called Brokeoff Volcano, which was 1,000 feet above Lassen Peak.…
Fusion rock is a term frequently used in music to classify songs containing characteristics of the rock genre with another style of music, for example African or jazz music. Sister Rose, performed by renowned band Sky, and Smooth performed by the popular band Santana are both strong examples of fusion rock. While Sky successfully manages to fuse two very opposite styles of music, rock and classical, Santana unites rock and Latin music together bringing a spicy, hot dance number. Both pieces achieve a fantastic product of fusion rock through the use of a variety of musical elements and characteristics from each individual genre of music. Harmony and chord progressions, instrumentation and compositional techniques were all considered by the artists to skilfully fuse the genres together.…
Adair Park Field Trip was a really great experience where you get to see many different types of rocks and many diverse examples of minerals. This trip happened on Saturday November 1, 2014. Several geology classes went to the field trip for the expedition, with the purpose of learning the different types of each rock and its minerals and also to identify the stones from oldest to youngest. The group leaders of this trip were several professors of geology. Professor Croxen, Garrett, Dr. B, did everything possible for this trip to happen.…
For this assignment I chose to watch the musical movie Rock of Ages. This movie is high energy and has fun and frisky choreography. With professional dancer Julianne Hough as our leading lady in the film it is tough not to get caught up in how the movement tells the story. After watching it I did realize there were several moments where they stopped dancing and that seemed to work for the story as well. From the start we get the urge to move with the opening song Paradise City.…

Others say that they were built with the large groups, however the men were all under the control of a God.…
