Last semester in my reading class, my professor asked if one of us would like to share something we had written in our journal from spring break. No one wanted to until one student raised her hand and said, “I’ll read mine.” The student essay jarred us into wakefulness. She described her trip to Cuba with personal encounters and she would read the essay as if every word mattered. I turned around and could tell that others students were stunned as I was. The way she wrote her essay and describe it gave all the students envy. More than any of the other deadly sins, Americans today are guilty of envy. Envy takes place in movies, books, and in politics.

When Cinderella father died, she was left with her wicked stepmother and two jealous sisters, who kept her enslaved. The stepmother envied Cinderella because her father always loved his daughter more than the stepmother. In a part of the book when Cinderella father hugged her and the stepmother witnessed it and she got mad and since then she treated Cinderella different. Once her dad left, the stepmother sent her to the attic so her daughters were able to move into her room. When they found out the father had died, the stepmother immediately started redecorating the house and did not let Cinderella eat with them or have some free time. When they were invited to the ball for the prince, the stepmother prohibited Cinderella to go because her stepsisters had to marry the prince. When Cinderella fairy godmother appears, she changed her into a gown and made a pumpkin into a carriage. She was able to make her dream come true to go to the ball to be with her prince. Once the midnight stroke, she ran off while leaving behind the glass slipper. The prince sent his people to every house to see who the glass slipper belonged to. Once the prince found out it was Cinderella, the stepmom and stepsisters were envious because they were saying how she was not pretty and it should of have been
