College Books Should Be Free

Decent Essays
In college, books are so expensive. the use of a college book is very poor. not every professor uses the book as a guide, but they requires us to purchase it. some teachers would rather use the internet than to use the book. the college books are also different prices accoriding to where you buy it from. not everyone has money to afford college books. i feel as the books should be free. we have to pay alot for tuition so they should cut the price of the books.

Everyone who lives in America has either experienced or has witnessed the harsh effects that college tuition can create. Students go into higher education experiences and are often forever in debt with the ghastly student loans. With the rates of college tuition continually growing, it has begun to raise the question “Should college be free to students in America?” There are many great reasons why college should be free to those in America. It would create a better educated population, college graduation rates would increase, fewer Americans would seek public assistance after completing school, and it would expose students to a more diverse and understanding lifestyle.…

Education For Everyone Education is something that everyone should be able to have. Knowledge is not something that should be for sale. Everyone should be able to have equal opportunity. This is why there should be no cost for receiving a college education. The general argument made by Carol Roth in the article “Free Community College Isn’t Free...and it’s a Bad Idea” is that saying that college will be free when it really won’t, and it will cause more problems and evidently not solve any current problems.…

In the article “As he promotes it,Some question Obama’s Free Community College Idea” by Joanne Jacobs we learn about the pros and cons there is to having a community college free. In the article we learn about the good things in having a free community college as well as the negative parts of it. Although there is many opinions to both sides my opinion and the side I am choosing is that a community college should not be free. I believe a community college shouldn’t be free because it's unfair for those who attend a 4 year university and have to pay the double amount of what a community college is normally. In the article Michele Siqueiros says “The promise of free tuition cold make the problem worse by drawing more students to already crowded…

Community College Should Stay the Same I don’t agree with Barack Obama’s idea of having free community college. There is many points that you will have to consider when you think of free community college, such as the professors not have the same wage that they are earning as if now. There will be students that might not take the education seriously, their mind will be that since it’s free it will not really affect him/her but as it won’t affect their budget it would affect the university that they'll be attending after community college. I also believe there is no point on making community college free because it is not expensive at all compared to universities but if you think that the tuition you are going to be getting is expensive there…

Today, I will be stating my opinion and three reasons of weather, university should be free for all Canadians or should Canadians pay for university. I believe that university should be free for all Canadians. My reasons being are because, low-income families cannot afford it, education should not be bought with money, and if university is free, for all those people who become successful and get good jobs it would build a good reputation in Canada. One of my reasons why universities should be free is because of the low-income families who cannot afford it.…

As of 2013 student loan debt is over one trillion dollars. This makes people think that college should be free because some people can’t afford college. Also, students will be in loan debt because they can not afford a place to stay. These claims are invalid because students usually force the student loan debts on themselves. College should not be free because kids will not try hard, there will be too many graduates, and free college does not cause kids to make decisions, whereas if college were free then poor kids could go to college and the world would be smarter and safer.…

Though, this solution that seems to do all good still has negatives. Just like its opposing argument why college should not be free has various points which support its claims but there are also reasons why it is not an entirely good decision as well. This is why college should neither be free or extremely expensive but it should be cheaper so that more students will have the opportunity to go to college and the students going already won’t have to deal with the insane price of an…

If a college student is taking twelve hours at Murray State College then the student would be paying $1760.04 per credit hour alone. Why could the classes be cheaper for students who make good grades and show up to class every day? Why could the students who make the good grades and show up to class every day pay for only their books? Why could college not be cheaper in general to all students? If students are deciding to attend college, why do they need to worry about not being able to pay for college?…

“If higher education at public schools becomes free, it might appear to devalue a college diploma. It might also lead to students cutting more classes or not trying because they don’t have to “get their money’s worth” when they aren’t paying for anything. The current price of college drives students to complete their schooling as quickly as possible so as to reduce debt. Without that financial drive, we might see more laziness and lackadaisical behavior from our students” (College Raptor). College would just be like high school everyone would go through it to be able to at least get a job.…

The answer is appeal; it makes the college attractive than the others, thus bringing in more business along with money because the cost of having “free” textbooks is included. The students will be willing to pay a higher tuition since the worry about the books is eased. This will also be a great marketing tool since everything is up front in costs since high school students and people going back to school might let the costs of books slip their minds because of events happening in their daily lives. Students that attend the Chattahoochee Tech will also spread the word about it having “free” textbooks, increasing the credibility to the school and raising its attractiveness when compared with the other colleges in the area. This benefits all, the school makes money and the students get their textbooks improving their education since they have most, if not all, of their resources to succeed in their classes, along with the additional benefit that Chattahoochee Tech will see improvements in academics since the students can focus on their classes instead of being distracted because of worries, such as lacking books due to one reason or…

College does indeed cost a lot; however, expensive tuition is not an incentive to make college free. Andrew Kelly, the director of the Center on Higher Education Reform at American Enterprise Institute (AES) says that free college would lead to an increase in taxes and because of the increase in enrollments, the cost to implement this policy would increase even more (The New York Times). He also states that “Rather than spread scarce federal money across all students, policymakers should instead target those resources toward those who need it most” (The New York Times). In other words, tuition-free education should only be an option to those who need it, not those who are able to afford…
